The Ramparts lane in Dundalk
A 51-year-old man was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital with head injuries after he was savagely beaten by a man with an iron bar in Dundalk town centre last night.
The man was walking down the Ramparts Lane in Dundalk at 1am when he was attacked.
Gardaí say the thug jumped off a bike and hit the man “repeatedly” across the head with an iron bar leaving him with cuts which required hospitalisation.
The man also had his black Samsung G8 smartphone and a sum of cash stolen before the attacker made his escape on a bike.
The 51-year-old is currently recovering at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital.
A garda spokesperson said that the attack “appeared to be random” adding that the matter was still under investigation.
He added: “It's a busy street. If anyone witnessed anything we would ask them to contact us on 042 93 88400 or on the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.”
