42% failure rate at Dundalk driving test centre
A failure rate of 43% was recorded at Dundalk driving test centre in the weekend ending 18 August 2018.
This is according to information supplied to Independent Senator Victor Boyhan by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
During the week ending 18 August, 143 tests were offered at Dundalk driving test centre.
Of the 143 tests, 67 passed(47%) and 61 failed.
Of the remaining 15 tests, 13 were no shows and two tests could not be completed due to "issue with vehicle or documentation".
It should be noted however, that these statistics relate to a particular week in August and are not necessarily indicative of ongoing pass rates in Dundalk.
Average waiting times in Test Centres across the country varied from nine weeks up to 16 (Killarney and Monaghan), with the RSA stating that its target is to achieve an average waiting time of ten weeks. No figures have been provided as of yet for waiting times in Dundalk.
Nationwide, almost 83,000 people are now on the waiting list for driving tests with learner drivers waiting up to six months for a test in some parts of the country.
