St Vincent’s school principal issues statement following Dundalk Democrat article

The principal of St Vincent’s Secondary School in Dundalk has issued a statement in the wake of a comment made in an article published on the Dundalk Democrat website yesterday.

“All students deserve to be celebrated for sitting their Leaving Certificate examinations and celebrated for their individual achievement and success”, said Mrs Matthews, in a statement which was published on the school’s website on Thursday.

“Looking at the text of the Dundalk Democrat article in print, I can understand how it could have been misinterpreted. It is upsetting for me as the Principal and for us as a school community if any student felt as a result of that comment she has not achieved success.

“We at St Vincent’s are absolutely delighted with the achievement of all our students and we would like to congratulate them and their families on their success”, the statement added.

“We would remind all students and parents, as I stated on graduation night, that Leaving Certificate results do not define them as a person”.

Mrs Matthews wished all students who took the exams “every success in the future”.
