Gardai are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated burglary which took place in Bay Estate on Monday morning (February 26th).

LMFM reports that a 21-year-old man was left "badly shaken" after he was confronted by a man wearing a balaclava when he answered his door in the Hazelwood area of Bay Estate on Monday evening at 6:30pm.

The masked man grabbed the 21-year-old "violently by the throat" and demanded money.

A second man reportedly stood in the hallway during the incident.

LMFM reports that the two men left the scene in a dark coloured car.

The reports came after a social media post by local man Gavin Connor alerted people in Dundalk to a suspicious group who were calling around doors in Bay Estate.

The post read: "Take care in Bay estate people, a woman in her 30’s calling to peoples doors looking for help but two lads with her hiding and forcing their way in. Nearly happened my mum tonight. Gardai are informed. Don’t answer your door without someone there with you. Hazelwood Avenue area."

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the group in Bay Estate on Monday. If you have any information please contact Dundalk gardai on 042 93 88440 or call the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
