With the east coast of Ireland battening down the hatches ahead of the incoming 'Beast from the East', local authorities and bodies are making preparations to ready themselves for the severe weather conditions we're likely to experience throughout the week.

Temperatures are falling and as ever, Louth County Council's gritting teams will be out in force on roads overnight and at various intervals over the next week. Many roads and streets in Dundalk town centre and it's surrounds are included on the council's gritting routes.

Below is a list (but not an exhaustive one) of local roads included on the gritting route:

Council crews were on Monday being assigned to gritting footpaths, clearing snow, assisting with traffic management, water services and any other works necessary during the severe weather spell.

"Brine stations have been checked and filled as necessary and all gritter trucks are fully operational," the local authority said in a statement today.
