Louth man was nabbed operating unlicensed taxi service

Ardee District Court

An Ardee man, who was cautioned about operating an unlicensed taxi service, was nabbed picking up a fare, the local district court heard.

Thomas Taaffe of Annaglog Cross was prosecuted by the National Transport Authority in respect of two counts for breaches of taxi regulations on August 5 last, and received fines totalling €6,000 and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

An officer with the Taxi Regulator told that he cautioned the defendant to desist from operating an unlicensed service.

But the defendant turned up after a lady booked a taxi from a pub in the area. She asked to be taken to Ardee, and he drove her there, and requested a €5 fare.

The defendant admitted he had no taxi licence or a driving licence for a taxi.

The officer also said that the defendant’s vehicle was in very poor condition
