Outdoor equipment brand Regatta to open new store in Dundalk
It has been revealed that Regatta, Britain’s biggest outdoor brand, are opening a store where Outdoor Xchange formerly was on the Long Walk in Dundalk.
The brand announced yesterday that they are hiring part-time retail assistants and supervisors for the new shop. The inside of the building is currently under construction.
In January, Jock Mc Ardle, owner of Outdoor Xchange, announced on Facebook that he was retiring. Outdoor Xchange was one of Dundalk’s most popular outdoor equipment stores, and had been in business for many years. The retirement of the owner the end of an era for many.
Facebook comments soon flooded in from well-wishers and customers of the store, wishing Jock and Susan a happy retirement and thanking them for their help over the years. One patron said “Jock and Susan, the end of an era in the town and well deserved. You will be missed. Hope you enjoy your retirement and to see you on the hills.” Another loyal customer said “best wishes Jock and Susan on your retirement. Your shop will be badly missed in the town but you deserve a very happy retirement.”
Regatta was founded in 1981 in Manchester by just 12 people, and is still owned by the Black family today. They sell outdoor clothes and equipment, and are most well-known for their waterproof jackets. They have outlets in over 55 countries.
