Dundalk St Patrick's Day parade route set be longest ever
The St Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by Dundalk Credit Union, Market Street is living up to the Dream Big Dundalk theme, with its longest route to date.
There is a return to parade participants gathering on Castletown Road and the parade will this year include Bridge Street before passing the Church, continuing up Clanbrassil Street and through the town’s main streets dispersing at Dublin Street/Stapleton Court. This new route means that more ground than ever will be covered by the Parade which starts on March 17th at 1pm. Applications are now being accepted for this year’s event.
Everyone knows that no parade is complete without a Grand Marshal, who this year will be internationally renowned musician Zoe Conway.
After the Parade, the Dundalk Credit Union/Pelican Promotions Family Fun Zone returns to the Market Square with music, food stalls and kids fun rides. €6 wristbands will be on sale in the run up to St. Patrick's Day and on the day offering unlimited use of the amusements.
The day’s full programme will be announced at the launch of the Parade in the Oriel Centre, Dundalk Gaol on Thursday.
David Minto, St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Chairman said there’s definitely a buzz building up around the day.
"Everything is gathering pace. Parade applications are coming in and everyone is delighted with Zoe Conway being our Grand Marshal. Dundalk Credit Union are proving to be an invaluable sponsor. We just would love the weather to be on our side and the sun to shine on March 17th but regardless there’s a great day’s events planned in Dundalk.”
Majella Toner Downey, Business Development Executive at Dundalk Credit Union feels the Dream Big Dundalk fever spreading.
“We are thrilled to see that the theme Dream Big Dundalk is being embraced by so many and we are excited to see how our community will showcase their dreams on March 17th.”
Additional sponsors this year are Dundalk Chamber, Longwalk Shopping Centre, Pelican Promotions, and Dundalk Municipal District Council/Louth County Council.
Closing date for parade applications is Friday 9th March.
