Louth Cllr backs Mary-Lou McDonald for Sinn Fein presidency

At tonight’s meeting of the Duffy Downey Sinn Féin Cumann based in Dundalk South, Cllr Ruairí Ó Murchú nominated Mary-Lou McDonald to take over as President of Sinn Féin from Gerry Adams.

Mr Adams will be standing down as leader and President on 10th February.

Cllr Ó Murchú said: “I nominated Mary Lou McDonald for the position of Uachtarán Shinn Féin and it was unanimously endorsed by my Cumann. This nomination tonight is alongside nominations from Louth Comhairle Ceantir and Sinn Féin Cumainn throughout the county.”

Ruairí Ó Murchú who is hoping also to replace Mr Adams as TD for Louth and East Meath said: "We can never express enough our gratitude to Gerry Adams TD for his exceptional leadership over the decades and also for all that he has done for Louth and East Meath."
