LOUTH TDs Fergus O'Dowd and Declan Breathnach have been successful in securing a joint Dáil debate on the Respite Crisis in Co Louth.
The debate is tabled to be taken at approximately 5.40pm to 6.30pm during 'Topical Issues'. In a statement issued by Louth Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd said the purpose of the tabled debate is:
"To ask the Minister/s in view of the unacceptable respite crisis in County Louth as highlighted in the Prime Time special 'Carers in Crisis' broadcast on the 5/12/17 that the Minister/s provide urgent and immediate emergency funding for respite service proposals that are currently in the HSE's possession, specifically to provide immediate funding for the Talbot Proposal as requested in my previous PQ requests that will provide immediate and substantial relief to the crisis in County Louth. Can the Minister/s make a statement on the matter?"
Meanwhile, Louth Fianna Fáil TD Declan Breathnach stated the tabled debate is for: "The need for the Minister for Health to urgently address the severe shortage of respite services in Louth; to address the problems caused by inadequate services for disability and intellectual disability care in Louth; and to discuss respite care services provision in County Louth."
