Man killed following collision between lorry and car outside Carrickmacross

Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the N2 between Castleblaney and Carrickmacross this afternoon.

Shortly before 5pm a collision involving a car and articulated lorry occurred on the N2 on approach to Carrickmacross (near McCaughey’s filling station).

The driver of the car, a male believed to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The road is currently closed to traffic in both directions as Gardaí and emergency services continue to examine the crash site. The road is expected to remain closed overnight and local diversions are in place.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station 042-9690190 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
