Dundalk Recycling Centre
On Thursday November 30th, household hazardous waste can be dropped FREE of charge to the Dundalk Recycling Centre (CA Site), Newry Rd., Dundalk.
This is one in a series of similar events happening all over Ireland this winter, all of which are funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment (DCCAE). Household hazardous waste will be accepted at the centre on the day from 10am until 4pm. While the normal entry fee to the recycling centre applies, there will be no extra charge for dropping off household hazardous waste on the day.
Common household hazardous materials enter the home in the form of cleaning fluids, gardening fertilizer, pesticides, varnishes, aerosols, medicines and so on. Many of these materials are dangerous to health and harmful to the environment. The aim of the free household hazardous waste collection is to highlight the amount of materials we have in our homes, often not being used, and to collect up as much of this material as is possible in an area.
An important aim of the event is to help people to understand the types of materials already in their homes that may be hazardous and to provide advice about safer and more eco-friendly alternatives for cleaning, gardening and DIY projects. For example, with just a few ingredients householders can make their own effective, inexpensive and safe cleaning products – cutting down on waste and creating a healthier living space.
Materials being collected on the day will include the following:
- Household Detergents
- Medicinal Waste (human & animal)
- Mixed Fuels, Oil (cooking & engine)
- Oil Filters
