Operation Transformation comes to lovely Carlingford

RTE’S OPERATION Transformation organised a walk in Carlingford on Nationwide Walks Day in association with Sports Ireland and Local Sports Partnerships.

On the day, people arrived from all over Louth to get out and walk with local contestant Yvonne Keenan-Ross. Yvonne, owner of Liberty Cafe in Carlingford, is one of the Leaders on the RTE program - and as such; led the walk from Carlingford Marina, down the Greenway and back.

Everyone was invited to take part in the walk, and to show their support for Yvonne on her Operation Transformation journey, and in total over 200 people made it out that morning to get involved.

In total there were over 70 walks on Saturday morning, in different locations around the country - with the five featured walks taking place at Carlingford Marina, Lucan Sarsfield's GAA Pitch, Knockane GAA Club, New Ross Town Park and Dunshaughlin Community Centre, with their five respective leaders.

Jonny Moneley of Carllingford Marina was delighted to provide assistance on the day, on the day, Marina Staff were on hand to assist the production crew with setting up for any shots, crowd control, and general assistance to any participants in the walk.

“I was contacted by Jill, the producer of Operation Transformation, who asked could we host the Carlingford walk for Yvonne. We were delighted to support Yvonne, so jumped at the opportunity. Carlingford Marina hosted the event by providing a meeting point for all participants, car parking space, toilet facilities, and office space for the registration of the walk. Sitar Cafe Bar and Indian Cuisine, which is located at the marina, kindly provided tea and coffee to participants after the walk”.

Walkers were invited into Carlingford Marina Office to register for the walk before making their way out to the Marina Car Park for a crowd shot with the RTE Film Crew. Registration happened between 8:30am and 9:15am, and after the crowd shots were taken, the walk began at 10:00am.

Led by Yvonne and Kathryn Thomas (presenter of RTE Transformation), the crowd headed off down the Greenway to a marker placed 2.5km down the path. The walked around the marker and headed back to the Marina completing a 5km walk in total.

Back at the Marina, tea and coffee was served in Sitar Cafe Bar and Indian Cuisine, and everyone got a chance to congratulate Yvonne, wish her well, and take a selfie with presenter Kathryn Thomas.
