New hillwalking group starts January 6th
By@dundalkdemocrat

Friday 6th of January 2017 sees the launch of a new local hill walking group called The Mountain Goats. Why a new group?

Are there not enough existing clubs? While there are numerous hill walking associations traversing The Cooley/Mournes Ranges they all tend to operate over the weekends or during the summer at evening times! Our new group is distinctly different in that we will meet every Friday at 11 am in the lower carpark, The Strandfield Centre (Coffee shop, restaurant, artisan foods ,garden centre),Ballymacscanlon Roundabout, Dundalk . We will decide there where to climb locally ie Cadjers Pass Annaverna, Lumpers, Sl na gCloch, 3 Grange Loops, Slieve Foy, etc etc . Occasional trips may take us elsewhere. Walks will vary between 2-4 hours duration and we expect to finish before 3pm. This will combat winter darkness at 4pm and also facilitate for some collection of children from schools etc. Carpooling may also be an option from Stranfield as we will then drive to the start of the walk. Strandfield will only be the meeting point every week. Essentially it will be a week day rather than weekend activity. Want to lose weight? Hill walk during the week? Improve your mental and physical health? If available at this appointed time then why not join us and remember membership is free to roam our beautiful, stunning and amazing Cooley Peninsula. Make your New Year`s resolution to improve come true. Further information may be had by ringing Brendan at 0872879856 or Damien at 0872525319.
