Local Facebook weather guru 'Louth Weather' is predicting the real onset of winter in the next few days, but has refused to say whether we could have a White Christmas in Dundalk this year.
"With temperatures struggling to reach 5°C from Thursday to Sunday we are in for our first real cold period of the winter.
"As far a snow is concerned, while I wouldn't rule out a few flakes even at lower levels, it's highly unlikely we will see falls of any significance.
"However, I do expect to see the first snowfalls over the higher parts of the Cooley Mountains by the end of the weekend.
"Snow forecasting is one of the most difficult areas in meteorology in Ireland. There's so many variables to look at and in our country these are usually very marginal."
As for whether we'll have a White Christmas, the local guru was not willing to look that far ahead!
"As far as forecasting anything over five days, you've come to the wrong place! Your guess for Christmas would be as good as mine."
