New approach to mental health

The Dublin North, North East Recovery College is an exciting new mental health initiative working throughout the Dublin North, Louth and Meath areas. The Recovery College takes an empowering community based approach to mental health with a focus on health and wellness.

With a focus on health and wellness, we aim to create a culture of recovery in the community by providing transformative educational courses, resources and creative spaces that are accessible to anyone who wants to learn about mental health recovery, including service users, their supporters and mental health professionals.

In our first semester the college is collaborating with the Dundalk Institute of Technology to deliver a cooperative learning course entitled Recovery: Learning Together. This course will commence in DKIT on Tuesday 1st November, 2016.

Recovery: Learning together - Course summary

Over the course of seven afternoon sessions, participants will explore the potential of mental health recovery identify what works well personally, and explore the unique ways the Recovery College works to support wellbeing. Along with identifying beneficial recovery tools, students will work together to develop new Recovery College course content with a view to helping others.

Applications for these empowering courses are now open to everyone in the Louth and Meath areas with an interest mental health wellbeing and recovery.

People with lived experience are central to the development of this much needed community based initiative, which is being supported by the HSE, DCU, DKIT, the Irish Advocacy Network, Advancing Recovery Ireland and Respond Housing.
