Plan to turn landmark school building into apartment block appealed to An Bord Pleanala

The old Marist buildings on Church Street.

A decision to give conditional planning permission to knock down the landmark Marist school building on Nicholas Street and turn the site into an apartment block and duplex complex has been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

The Society of Mary (Marist Fathers), Marist Fathers, Mount St Marys, Dundrum Road, Milltown, Dublin 14 had been given conditional permission to demolish  "outbuildings within the curtilage of the Protected Structure" and a boundary stone wall to
Nicholas Street, as well as the sports hall and science block.

They want to replace these building with a three storey apartment block and 8 three storey duplexes.

The decision to give that conditional planning permission however has now been appealed to the An Bord Pleanala by a number of third parties.

The nature of the appeals were that the new buildings would be out of character in the area and that they would infringe on local residents, as well as devaluing residential properties in the area.
