Classified Records is celebrating its first birthday this weekend, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th August.

Dundalk’s only record shop opened its doors twelve months ago and to help celebrate their first year in business, they are commemorating it in style this weekend.

Situated in the Demesne in the town centre Classified Records has facilitated the re-emergence of vinyl as a popular music format in the area. Sales of this once-defunct format have risen globally and this trend has been reflected here in Dundalk.

Over the last 12 months the shop has attracted a strong following by catering for all kinds of music and delighting local collectors with an eclectic mix of new and pre-owned vinyl, creating its own eco-system in the process.

In addition to the daily sales of records, CDs, DVDs and other music merchandise, Classified Records has brought some remarkable events into the heart of the town centre.

Over the past year it hosted five in-store gigs, launched a Christmas single, featured in a TV show as well as a vinyl documentary and became official partners in the globally-celebrated ‘Record Store Day’ sponsored by BBC Radio.

Owner, Neil Waters, has been delighted by the progress. He commented:

“We worked clandestinely for months to prepare for the opening last August and although we took a few people by surprise, we’ve fixed ourselves into the town centre, supplying a requirement that every big town needs; a record shop”.

“The last 12 months have just zipped by. We’re very proud to be here every day, replenishing the area with an opportunity to purchase records; allowing us to contribute to the robust local music scene. The shop is more than just a shop, it’s a hub of music, an area of ideas and a learning centre where we are always debating and creating”.

“Like most music stores, we’ve started out small and independent. But things evolve and develop and we’ve learnt a lot through our customers and their widely-assorted tastes. There’s so much great music we all haven’t heard yet and that’s really exciting….your favourite album of all time may be your next purchase”.

“We’ve received unbelievable support and goodwill from our customers in Dundalk and beyond.

“We massively appreciate it. We will continue to try and improve and stay fresh we always have new records landing.

“We are aiming to grow and the sky is the limit; someday we’ll get David Holmes to DJ instore here. Just wait for it!”

Classified Records will be celebrating in style this weekend with a party atmosphere and records on special offer.

There will be free giveaways, promotional merchandise offers, instore live music and complimentary food and drinks.
