Family, friends and the partner of the late Colin Torpey joined together to create an annual Golf competition in honour of Colin.
Colin was a member of Dundalk golf club and was a very talented golfer.
He was a very popular teacher who taught mathematics and I.T at Ó Fiaich College for over thirteen years.
Colin was 41 years old when he died tragically on the 23rd April 2016, close to Dundalk Golf Club.
The large turnout at Colin’s prayer service in the Holy Family Church, Dundalk and his funeral in Miltown Malbay, Co Clare was a testament to Colin’s popularity and deep sadness at his tragic loss.
The Colin Torpey inaugural golf competition was held in Dundalk Golf Club on Saturday, 16th July followed by dinner and prize giving. Over 70 people attended the event. Close friends of Colin, Joe McEneaney and Michael McDermot organised the golf event and together with Colin’s brother Seamus Torpey and Colin’s partner Jennifer Ray, presented prizes to:
1st place: David McQuillan (39 points), a close friend of Colin who in his speech gave praise to Colin for his golfing tips. David was presented with a perpetual trophy and green Masters jacket for his success.
2nd Place: Eamon Treanor (34 points). Eamon is owner of the Bayview Inn, Blackrock who also kindly sponsored prizes for the event.
3rd Place: Gerard Dunne (33 points). Gerard was close colleague of Colin at Ó Fiaich College (and plays off scratch).
1st Place: Ide McDermott (29 points). Ide is a member of Dundalk Golf Club and a friend of Colin.

Next year’s event will be held again in Dundalk Golf Club and will be advertised closer to the time. Special thanks to Dundalk Golf Club for hosting the event. Special thanks also to the sponsors: Ó Fiaich College, The Clermont Arms, Blackrock; The Bayview Inn, Blackrock; and Ideal Office Equipment, Dundalk.
