Eight M.A.D Youth Theatre members took part in the National Festival for Youth Theatre in Kilkenny last week.
The annual event ran by the National Association for Youth Drama (NAYD) is said to be the biggest social and artistic event for affiliated Youth Theatre groups.
The festival took place over six days and involves a residential programme of theatre skills workshops delivered by expert facilitators and a packed calendar of social activities.
With over 100 young theatre members from across Ireland participating in top quality theatre workshops in Physical Theatre, Circus, Mask, Ensemble and Devising theatre.
M.A.D Youth Theatre was delighted to be selected to take part this year, this has been their third time in 5 years to attend the festival. Past attendees from previous years describe the festival as unforgettable experience and it the results is the same this year.
Feedback from the member Anneke Wisniewska said: “It's unreal to be honest. I have met lots of cool people that are just like me.”
Another member, Clodagh Griffin was also blown away by the event: “The week has been a blast I've learnt so many new things and I'm glad that I got chosen to go” Georgia Cooney said:” I chose to do Physical Theatre workshop for the week, In the workshop I have learned that I can't just to rely on myself, I have to rely on others which has helped me gain trust of others”
Founder and Artisitic Director of MADYT Kwasie Boyce said: “I am very proud of our members, they are hardworking and eager to learn. We are more than just the Drama, we are about the development of the whole person, our programming focus on the personal, social and artistic growth.
“We challenge our young people and encourage them to challenge themselves.
“We see members overcome their personal challenges and do things that help them grow into a more confident individual and Artist. M.A.D Youth Theatre is for everyone whether you want to be a professional actor or not.”
M.A.D Youth Theatres members has had a very busy year so far with workshops, collaborative work, devising new performance pieces, trips to Prague, Theatre trips and festivals. But it is not over for 2016.
