It's never too late to change your life for the better - just ask Roisin Cox.

Roisin was three stone overweight and starting to feel the onset of major health problems were not far away.

Feeling breathless after the slightest exercise was worrying and lower back pain which was diagnosed as coming from her hips were early warning signs of what lay ahead .

Cooking and baking were always a passion but the calorific fat and sugar laden foods she loved to make were piling on the fat.

Stressful events in her life would also lead to bouts of "comfort eating ".

Although aware of the damage that she was doing to her body, she lacked the motivation to do anything about it .

Life changed for the better when she met a friend who had lost a lot of weight and was looking fantastic.

Her friend extolled the virtues of Slimming World, a plan she had never heard of before .

What her friend told her about this plan seemed too good to be true but with her friends encouragement she went along to her local Slimming world group .

"I have never been to anything like this before" said Roisin "But as soon as I heard the details of the plan from the consultant, I was hooked.

“There was a very positive buzz in the room and I received a warm and friendly welcome from all the other members .

“I just knew I was in the right place "

Roisin loved the whole ethos of Slimming World. The unique food optimising plan was so generous, feeling hungry, deprived or guilty was never going to be an issue.

Being able to enjoy all her favourite meals by simply adjusting the cooking methods was music to her ears .

Gentle encouragement to incorporate exercise into her life in easy stages and the motivation and encouragement she found in the group sessions were really powerful tools that gave her the determination to lose weight .

She set her own desired target weight and a year later the three stone was a thing of the past.

That was over four years ago and she has managed to maintain her new weight .

“I always loved nice clothes and it is a real joy to go clothes shopping again .No more hiding behind big black cardigans ! "

She still attends group as a Free Target member .

“She was thrilled this year to have been chosen in a recruitment drive to become a Slimming World counsellor herself .

“I hope I can use my passion and belief in this plan to encourage others to come along with me and make their dreams come true. Mine did!”

Roisin is relaunching the Wellington Hall Slimming world group, St. Marys Street (opposite the Marist Church ) Dundalk on the 12 th July. Groups at 5.30 and 7.30 pm every Tuesday .ie
