Dundalk mum of three loses two and half stone

A mum of three from Dundalk decided it was time to take the plunge and lose weight so she could keep up with her kids.

Now two and a half stone lighter Siobhan Martin is enjoying a brighter and lighter life as she embarks on a new career as a slimming world consultant.

Siobhan joined her local slimming world group with the aim of losing two stone as her weight was making her feel very down and she had no confidence because of the way she looked .

Siobhan had previously tried many other slimming organisations but always felt very restricted by what she could eat and always felt hungry .

Siobhan noticed her sister -in-law had started to lose weight and ask how she was doing it she told her that it was through Slimming World.

When she asked if she would be interested in coming along Siobhan was unsure as she did not know what to expect and thought people would be looking and staring at her but then she realised she had nothing to lose only lbs .

Siobhan could not believe the atmosphere when she walked into the room, everyone was so welcoming and friendly, not to mention how encouraging they all were.

Siobhan set a target of two stone and was soon on her way of achieving her goals.

Now five years down the line she is a diamond target member in her group which means she has maintained her very own personal target for 4 years and also receiving awards for reaching certain milestones along her journey and also get slimmer of the week.

Siobhan says "Slimming world was so different" I never felt like i was a diet. The plan allows you to eat real food like pasta, rice , potatoes, lean meat and fish , while allowing you to never feel hungry as no foods are banned so she never felt deprived.

Siobhan could not believe she'd found a way to lose weight without starving herself and still always been able to have her favourite meals like taco chips and curries every week and still having weight loss.

Slimming world isn't just about changing what you eat it's all about getting the support to choose a healthier lifestyle and finding hints and tips to become more active .

"My weight loss has completely changed my life , working in retail was quite tough been a size 16-18 as the clothes I was selling did not fit properly so I would have to shop elsewhere," says Siobhan, whose children would look for her to play with them but she was just not fit to do so.

Now everything has changed she can shop where she likes with no hesitation and loves going for walks playing in the park and not feeling ashamed or embarrassed to be seen.

On top of that she has got a whole new career, it's well paid and the hours fit around her life and family, but best of all she s doing something that she s passionate about.

“As a slimmer myself I know how hard it can be and I could not have lost two and a half stone without the support of my consultant and group.

“That 1 hour a week was my time in group where you get to overcome disappointment as well as celebrating success as they are all part of every journey, I'm looking forward to providing lots of support encouragement and fun at my Slimming world group and I guarantee you that you will be made very welcome and encouraged every step of the way.”

Siobhan has taken over the McGeoughs Dundalk group on the second floor on Roden place at 9.30 am 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
