Cara Pilbeam from Dundalk has been announced as a winner at the Irish League of Credit Unions All Ireland Art Competition which took place at Croke Park in Dublin on Sunday 14th February. Cara took first prize in the 1 -13 years category.
The competition which recognises aspiring artists from all over the country saw family and friends of the winning artists and staff representing credit unions from all over Ireland join Marty Whelan to recognise the outstanding talent on display.
The competition, which is one of the biggest art competitions for children and adults alike, has been running for 32 years and is open to entrants of all ages. The competition this year attracted a huge 30,000 entries through 300 credit unions nationwide. This year’s theme ‘Happiness is …’ was open to interpretation by each entrant and aimed to celebrate the creativity, imagination and vibrancy of the budding artists.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, ILCU President, Brian McCrory said: ‘We wholeheartedly support the artistic development of people young and old in our communities across the island of Ireland and I want to say a huge congratulations to Cara for her outstanding piece. The artists here today should be extremely proud of themselves and the quality of the artwork displayed is truly outstanding. It is interesting to see how uniquely each of the artists interpreted the theme. Well done to everyone involved.”
