Louth County Council offer fresh update with Yellow Rain warning still in place

Louth County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team (SWAT) will continue to monitor the ongoing weather situation and have warned small amounts of rain could still cause flooding. 

In a statement, Louth County Council said River Flood Advisories are in place for the Fane, Glyde and Dee rivers until 9am on Tuesday, February 3rd.

It continued:

Following a week of persistent rainfall, many rivers are at, or above, bank-full conditions and soils remain saturated or waterlogged, meaning that small additional amounts of rainfall can possibly trigger further flooding. Surface water levels also remain elevated.

Council crews have been inspecting and repairing locations across the county and all water accumulations and surcharging sewers in residential areas have been cleared over the past 24 hours,  

Thursday night was relatively calm with no incidents or call outs reported in Dundalk and North Louth. A water pump is in place at the mouth of the Blackwater River in Dundalk to assist with reducing the water levels during high tide and will remain operational across the weekend.

Operations crews responded to reports of flooding on the N52 Kells Road, outside Ardee this morning while a crew was also dispatched to remove a fallen tree on the Bog Road, Ardee at lunchtime. Road sweepers were deployed at pinch points in Drogheda, to clear debris and clean gullies.

Three roads remain closed due to surface water runoff: the Greyacre Road, Dundalk; Green Road, Dromiskin and Grange Road, Aclint.

Extra sandbags have been delivered to areas which were affected earlier in the week, including Cluan Enda and Bay Estate in Dundalk, while one tonne sandbags will remain in place on the N2 Drogheda Road in Ardee to divert running water away from nearby properties.

The public is urged to remain vigilant of debris on roads, avoid floodwater, and please heed all signage in relation to closed roads.
