Green Party councillor Marianne Butler has called for Louth County Council to review its use of X
Louth County Council have been urged to review it use of social media platform X amid concerns about its AI tool Grok.
Green Party councillor for Dundalk South Marianne Butler asked if Louth County Council were reviewing its use of the platform "in light of everything that has come out about it in the last couple of weeks".
X, formerly known as Twitter had come under fire for its AI tool Grok's ability to create non-consensual images of women and children.
Cllr Butler said she has taken the decision to stop posting on the platform calling it the "right thing to do".

However, she acknowledged that some people rely on X for information from the local authority, especially during extreme weather events.
“Every year we do a promotion for Louth and we get children from local primary schools and they get photos with the Cathaoirleach and we use children when promoting the safe routes to school.”
“When it comes to posting pictures of children maybe that's something we could definitely stop on X and keep it to purely those emergency notices,” she said.
The Green Party councillor asked if the council are planning on expanding to other social media platforms such as Bluesky, a similar platform to X.
Joanna Kelly, Acting Director of Services, HR, Corporate and Community Delivery with Louth County Council said it takes the issue "seriously particularly when there’s a child safeguarding issue around photographs on particular platforms.”
Last week, X announced Grok will no longer be able to generate photos of real people in revealing clothing. Yet, there have been reports that users are still able to create sexualised content from photographs of fully clothed, real women.
