Louth County Council have said it will engage with other stakeholders and organisations that could result in the St Patrick's Day parade going ahead.
It comes after the Dundalk St Patrick's Day Committee decided against holding the parade due to a lack of funding.
In a statement Louth County Council reiterated that it is not responsible for the organisation and delivery of St Patrick's Day parades in any town or village across Louth.
The council said it was "disappointed that the current Dundalk St Patrick’s Day committee was not in a position to deliver a festival programme within the available budget for 2026".
However, it said "the Council is fully supportive of events that contribute to the local economy and promote tourism within the county and is actively engaging with other stakeholders and organisations to explore potential options that could result in a St Patrick’s Day festival that is appropriate and fitting for the people of Dundalk".
Louth County Council had previously said it had engaged with the committee to explore alternative arrangements for the 2026 festival but a there was not a viable option for this year
The council do have a Festival Grant Initiative for 2026 which provides a maximum of €8,000.
