Huge success for new cinema

Omniplex sells 20,000 tickets in two weeks

The opening of the new cinema in the retail park has been the most successful in the history of the Omniplex.

Boosted by the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the new Omniplex cinema hit the 20,000 landmark on New Year’s Day, meaning that the nine screen cinema on Dundalk Retail Park has already served the equivalent of over half the population of Dundalk in only its first two weeks of operation.

The cinema’s 20,000th customer was given a €100 Omniplex Love Cinema gift card. The lucky winner was Three-year-old Anna Lennon from Carlingford, who came to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on New Year’s Day, with her father Ciaran and her brother Luke, who has a very famous Star Wars name.

Paul Anderson, Managing Director of Omniplex Cinemas says: “The opening of Omniplex Dundalk has exceeded even our wildest expectations. Having a film like Star Wars helps of course and our new staff and management team have performed superbly considering the immense demand being placed on them by an expectant public. Dundalk should be proud to have the most modern cinema in the country on their doorstep and the superb early figures shows the demand for quality cinema in the area.

“Our Premium Large Format OmniplexMAXX screens have been a huge hit with the public and as the largest screens, and the only with Dolby Atmos sound installed in Dundalk, it is without question the best cinematic experience around.”

Developed at a cost of €3.5m and employing 23 staff, the new nine screen cinema opened to coincide with the midnight screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The cinema is the first in the country to feature two OmniplexMAXX Premium Large Format (PLF) screens and is also the first Omniplex cinema in the Republic to be fitted with the new Dolby Atmos sound systems, which has been installed in both OmniplexMAXX screens.

The opening of Omniplex Dundalk was the sixth addition to the cinema group in what was a busy 2015.

In recent weeks because of the huge demand for tickets, many movie goers ended up going to the the IMC cinema on the Longwalk. IMC launched their Galactic Screen in recent weeks.
