The Social Democrats party has selected Niall McCreanor as their general election candidate for LouthHaving grown up in the county, Mr McCreanor says he has witnessed firsthand the challenges facing residents of the county.

He commented: “I am honoured to be selected to run for the Social Democrats in this constituency. This is my home and my family’s home and I am passionate about creating a brighter future for Louth.

“We face pressing issues such as housing affordability, healthcare access, the need for urban regeneration, and public transport deficiencies that demand immediate action.

“Housing is the significant concern for many residents in Louth, with skyrocketing rents and a lack of affordable options. Everyone deserves a place to call home. I will advocate for policies that support the construction of affordable homes and ensure that local families can live in the communities they grew up in.”

Mr McCreanor continued: “Health is another critical issue. Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege – it should be a right. I will continue to fight for more healthcare funding and improved services so everyone in Louth can receive the care they need, when they need it.”

Looking at further local issues affecting people in Louth, he said: “I am a firm believer in urban regeneration, which is vital for revitalising towns and enhancing community life. We need to breathe new life into Louth’s urban spaces, ensuring they are vibrant, welcoming, and conducive to local business growth.

“Public transport is another priority for me, with a particular focus on the urgent need for the reopening of the train station in Dunleer.”

Welcoming Niall’s selection, Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns said: “Having met with Niall in Ardee earlier this year, I know that he cares passionately about Louth and the need to improve public services and the quality of life for people in the county.

“As a committed community activist, Niall would be an exceptional TD for the people of Louth. I wish him every success with his election campaign in the weeks ahead.”
