St Patrick's Cemetery to be returned to 'acceptable standard of presentation'

Louth County Council has committed to carrying out "all necessary works" to ensure St Patrick's Cemetery at Dowdallshill in Dundalk, is returned to "an acceptable standard of presentation".

Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr Seán Kelly had written to Director of Placemaking and Physical Development at Louth County Council, Mr David Jones, calling for an urgent clean up, due to green areas and laneways at the cemetery being overgrown with vegetation and hindering access to graves.

Cllr Kelly had asked that the local authority carry out an urgent clean up and to share its plans for the cemetery.

Mr Jones replied to Cllr Kelly this week to day that maintenance work would be carried out "as quickly as possible". In his response to Cllr Kelly, the Director said that he agreed that "the current maintenance levels at Dowdallshill Cemetery is below what should be the case."

He added that "I have asked the team to prioritise the arrangement of all necessary works in order to ensure the cemetery is returned to an acceptable standard of presentation, as quickly as possible."
