Event to discuss research findings on Dundalk Bay and mud sediments

Dundalk Bay

In Spring 2023, people living in Dundalk and Clogherhead were asked to take a survey about Dundalk Bay.

Researchers wanted to know what the bay meant to people, especially the area more than 5 kilometres from the coast. They also talked to people about sediments in the bay (or mud on the seabed) and how they should be managed.

This is because marine sediments potentially store carbon and may help slow climate change.

The researchers say they are very grateful for all the help they received in collecting this information, and would like to share some of their findings with the public during an event in Dundalk Library on Wednesday, January 10th from 6.30 - 7.30 PM

During this event, they will explain what the Taking Stock project was all about, share the results of their study on the value of Dundalk Bay and its sediments, and explain how this information can help make a difference to the way the marine area is managed. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

As part of the evening, they plan to present their policy brief 'Carbon in Marine Sediments: Dundalk Bay and Potential Climate Mitigation'. There will be copies available for all who are interested.
