Louth Volunteer Centre to hold Louth County Schools Conference next week

Louth Volunteer Centre are offering Transition Year students across the county a great opportunity to learn about volunteering in community and how it helps well-being and adds extra skills to their CVs.

As part of its 20th Anniversary programme, Louth Volunteer Centre has organised a major conference and volunteer fair exclusively for Transition Year students.

The event will showcase volunteering and give young people a chance to meet people from leading community organisations who will explain their work and how they need young people to help develop their activities to benefit others.

The Conference will feature talks and interactive workshops and will include Amy Broadhurst, local boxing champion and gold medal winner at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 who will tell her story on achieving great success and how she then dealt with the experience of huge setback also.

Louth Volunteer Centre will explain how volunteering works across the county, the roles that are on offer and how it benefits the community of county Louth. They will show how easy it is sign up and how varied the opportunities are to get involved.

They will also be recruiting for the active corps of Community Volunteers who can provide one off help at festivals and community events.

Kayleigh Mulligan, Manager of Louth Volunteer Centre says that: “Volunteering is proving to be hugely beneficial to young people who do it on a one-off basis now and again at events or who commit a few hours a week on a regular basis to a community organisation.

"It helps them to understand the concepts of active citizenship and social responsibility. Volunteering introduces students to people from different walks of life and shows them how different people’s lives can be.

"They have new experiences and gain insight into how to develop their own personal growth, learning new skills which can benefit their CVs and help them move forward in their lives. Volunteers gain so much themselves while giving to others.”

The Conference and Fair runs from 10.00-13.00 on Tuesday 3rd October. For further information www.volunteerlouth.ie
