Sinn Féin to run extra candidates in almost every constituency says Louth TD

Louth Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú

Louth Sinn Féin TD, Ruairí Ó Murchú has said that the party will run additional candidates in “almost every constituency” in the next general election.

Deputy Ó Murchú was speaking to the Dundalk Democrat in relation to the Electoral Commissions report last week, where it recommended that the Julianstown Electoral District (ED) be moved to the Meath East constituency.

Commenting on the redrawing of the Louth constituency, Deputy Ruairí Ó Murchú said: “Louth is to remain a five-seater and there was, unsurprisingly, no major change.

“Parts of the constituency will be returning to Meath, which can make things easier when the constituency and the county council are the same.

“However, these voters endorsed my colleague Imelda Munster in large numbers in the last election in 2020, and previously, Gerry Adams.

“And, as constituents, they received first class representation from Imelda and her office over the last three years and before that, from Gerry and the office in Dundalk. I know they will receive the same level of great service from East Meath’s Darren O’Rourke in their changed constituency."

Focusing on the upcoming elections, the Sinn Féin TD said, “at the next local, European and general elections, which have come into focus with the publication of the Electoral Commission’s report, Sinn Féin will be going for broke and we will do everything we can to ensure that we deliver change, that we aim to deliver a Sinn Féin government which, preferably, will not include Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael."

He added, “every single week, people ask me if we are going to be running enough candidates, and I can tell you that we will be running additional candidates in almost every constituency in the elections to come. We will not be leaving anything on the pitch”.
