Louth councillor welcomes confirmation of upgrade works at Anngassan port

Cllr John Sherifan at Annagassan harbour

Local Councillor John Sheridan welcomed confirmation last week of significant upgrade works to be carried out at Annagassan port this autumn.

Cllr Sheridan said: "This is very welcome news for Annagassn and Mid-Louth.

“Louth County Council have confirmed that upgrade works will be carried out at Annagassan port and are to be completed by November this year."

The works will include: car park resurfacing works, new drainage and gullies to be installed, handrail to be installed around the perimeter of the car park, new LED lighting heads to be installed, a 0.5 tonne crane to be installed and associated electrical works as well as removal and replacement of access ladders.

Cllr Sheridan continued: "At the March 2022 Mid-Louth Municipal District meeting, I had a motion passed asking for Louth County Council to apply for funding for Anngassan harbour which they subsequently did.

“The fund was specifically designed to assist harbours following Brexit.

“The funding announced for Annagassan was €190,060 from the Brexit fund, with match funding from Louth County Council, so that's a total investment of €223,601 for Anngassan.

"Hopefully this will a significant benefit to Annagassan and all who use the port for fishing, water sports and all other visitors."

Similar funding will also see upgrade works carried out by November at Port Oriel, Clogherhead.
