Dundalk dog named Louth 'Nose of Tralee'

Winston, a five year old Aussalier (mini Australian Shepherd crossed with Cavalier King Charles) has been named this year’s ‘Louth Nose of Tralee’ and will now go on to the national competition to be named Nose of Tralee.

Winston was rehomed to Clodagh O'Riordan in 2020 while she was living in Canada.

A month before she was due to move home to Ireland last year, Winston very quickly lost his eyesight and had emergency surgery to remove his eyes as he was in a lot of pain and had no chance of regaining his vision.

Three weeks later they flew back home to Ireland and he has been living the good life in Dundalk ever since.

Clodagh says it would mean a lot to see him winning this contest exactly a year after such an awful thing happened to him.

“He’s remained a positive happy dog and has adapted beautifully. His nose works extra hard as he has no eyesight and therefore should definitely win Nose of Tralee.”
