St Peters AC strike golf at National Juvenile Track & Field Championships

Dearbhla Allen, centre, on the podium after securing the Gold Medal in the U17 2000M Steeplechase

The first day of the National juvenile track & Field Championships took place on Saturday last. St Peters had jus two athletes in action and amazingly both managed to bring home medals.

Dearbhla Allen managed to bring home the Gold medal when she won the U17 2000M Steeplechase. She led this race from gun to tape and provided a very strong performance to win her first National Championship in what is a new event for her. The talented runner will return to Tullamore next week where she will compete in the U17 Girls 3000M race.

Elsewhere, Sean Reilly was also in action in the boys U18 800M race. He came through his heat comfortably in first place and went into the final with optimism of winning a medal.

That optimism was justified, as in what was a very tactical race, Sean was part of a breakaway group over the last 400M lap.

He managed to bring home the bronze medal. This was his second year in a row to achieve this feat. Like Dearbhla, Sean will return to Tullamore to complete in the Boys U18 1500M race.

A day later, James McCourt represented the Dromiskin based club when he took part in the National B Championships.  He was involved in the U12 boys Long jump, where he leapt a very respectable jump of 3.35M.
