A 25 year old man who was charged with two counts of dangerous driving after being spotted driving at high speed by gardaí in an unmarked patrol car, avoided losing his driving licence at Dundalk District Court last week.
Mark Coscoran with an address at Millockstown, Ardee was summoned for committing the offences on the M1 southbound at Little Mills, Dundalk and Acarragh, Dundalk on February 6th 2021 and for failing to stop for a garda at Carnabreagh, Dundalk.
The court heard that during Covid, two motorists were seen travelling at high speed on the N53 at Philipstown before they entered the M1 at Junction 17.
They were unaware that the unmarked patrol car was travelling behind them and they were pulled over.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan was told the investigating garda consented to the dangerous driving charge being reduced to careless driving.
After the Defence barrister stressed that his client is heavily dependent on his driving licence Judge McKiernan imposed a €200 fine and said in view of the circumstances she would exercise her discretion and not disqualify him from driving.
