MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

Mannan Castle Seniors weekly 13-Hole competition took place in hot and humid weather. All the players sought to take advantage of the hard and fast conditions, where an extra 20 to 30 yards could be gained by hitting the fairway.

Some competitive scoring saw the overall winner triumph on countback. Richard Eakin played very steady golf, scoring on every hole, with several 3-pointers and a 4-pointer on his card which proved to be the decisive score.

Seniors Captain Tommy Duffy was the one to lose out to Richard, despite also scoring on every hole. He had the consolation of picking up the Category 2 prize. In Category 1, Finbar Boylan showed good form to finish the clear winner.

Senior Men's Result Tuesday 13th June 13 Hole Competition - Overall: Richard Eakin (28) 29pts c/b. Category 1: Finbar Boylan (20) 27pts. Category 2: Tommy Duffy (26) 29pts.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

The perfect golf weather, blue skies, sunshine and 45 ladies lathered in sunscreen with golf bags stocked up with cool drinks, hit the fairways of Mannan Castle.

So given the ideal conditions for the game only one woman scored less than 70 nett. Our runaway champion, Angela Evers (28), was five points ahead of her nearest challenger.

Angela had a rocky start with a five on the first, but she quickly recovered. There was nothing spectacular on her round, just steady golf, bogey golf with two lovely pars including one on the difficult index 2 16th hole, to finish with a gross score of 93 to finish with a fantastic 65 nett.

In second place, Angela Gartlan (22) had a par on the first hole, which typically means you’ll mess up the round. But she kept her cool and managed to card four pars to finish with 70 nett.

In third place, beating our lowest lady golfer Louise Hanratty on the countback was Ann Moriarty (52), finishing in third place with a nett score of 71 nett.
