There was big wins for St Dominic's and Rampart Celtic last week as the action in the league heats up
Dundalk & District League
Bay United 3 St Dominics 6
Bay United fell to their first defeat this season in a goal fest against St Dominics on the Rock Road pitch. The home side scored after nine minutes, Stefan Wesley bagging his 3rd strike this season. Niall Mackin levelled matters on 15 minutes.
Just before the water-break Martin Murphy, with a long range screamer put the Saints ahead. A devastating seven minute spell before half time saw the visitors go 5-1 ahead. A penalty dispatched by Gino Cooney made it 5-2 at the break.
Gino Cooney shortly after the restart gave Bay some hope of a revival with his eight strike this year, but the Friary side with a 6th goal ended their hopes. Braces by Niall Mackin and top scorer Greg Shannon, he now has 14 goals to his credit, and a long strike from Colm Bracken, who was sent off in added time, completed the goal fest.
Rampart Celtic 5 Shamrocks FC 1
A terrific battling display by Rampart Celtic on the all-weather pitch in Muirhevnamor saw them inflict the first defeat of the season on last year’s treble winners Shamrocks.
This win lifted Rampart into joint second in the league, just one point adrift of the leaders. They struck quickly, Oran O’Hanlon scoring after two minutes of play. Kaylen Casey levelled matters 20 minutes in.
Lee Wright regained the Ramparts lead, his efforts going in off the crossbar in the 40th minute. Two minutes later Ryan Watters found the roof of the net to give the home side a 3-1 interval lead.
On the hour mark Lee Wright headed home from a corner kick to make it 4-1 close to full-time. Niall Ferguson completed the rout of the champions, making Rampart true contenders to win the 100th running of the league since it was formed in 1905/06 season. Man of the match was the impressive Sean Mc Quillan of Rampart Celtic.
