St. Louis Secondary School Dundalk held its annual Student Awards Ceremony on Friday May 19th for both Junior and Senior students. Awards were presented for both academic and extracurricular activities. The diverse variety of talents, abilities and students’ contribution to school life were recognised on the day.

Awards for Endeavour, Student Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Creativity, Debating, Green Schools, Music as well as Sport and Academic achievements in all curricular subjects were recognised. As is tradition, the presentation of the coveted St Louis Ethos Award was also a special moment.

The St Louis Ethos Award is presented to the one 6th Year student who is deemed to have contributed to the overall ethos of the school. That student will have been a role model for others as well as reflecting the St Louis Mission Statement in her daily interactions with all in the school community.

As is tradition St Louis welcomed back a number of students from the class of 2022. The school celebrated all their hard work and commitment in achieving over 500 points and in some cases over 600 points in the Leaving Cert of 2022. Ellie Mulligan was congratulated as the St Louis student who received the highest points in Leaving Certificate 2022.

Last year’s St Louis Ethos Award Winner and Deputy Head Girl, Lauren Boyle also returned to present 6th Year student Sarah Lawrence with her special Ethos Award, a student who exceeds expectations and is very highly regarded by her peers, staff and senior management.

The event was live streamed for any parent who could not attend during the day and this was also a huge success and the school received very positive feedback from parents.

Principal Michelle Dolan said: “Our mission statement confirms our commitment to educate the whole person and to encourage the qualities of respect, truth, responsibility, happiness and excellence in a caring inclusive atmosphere. The evidence of these qualities and attitudes was clearly palpable on Friday where excellence was rewarded and the wider student body was inspired by their peers and mentors to continue to pursue the highest possible personal standards and fulfil their individual potential.

“If you see it, you can be it' and students were treated to wonderful demonstrations of what is achievable with hard work, discipline and commitment. A special word of thanks to the volunteer staff committee who produced a highly organised but also warm and inclusive event for all. The atmosphere during the event was both positive and warm such was the affirmation and celebration.”

Mary Gilmore Deputy Principal said: “There was a real sense of occasion on the day as the whole school got an opportunity to get a full sense of all the work and effort which goes into making St Louis the wonderful warm and supportive environment where all efforts are recognised, encouraged and celebrated.”

The closing school mass was celebrated by Dominican Friar Fr. Patrick Murphy in Fatima Church was also part of the day which gave a lovely conclusion to the year. It was a busy but rewarding day for all.
