Bat Walk in Omeath among local events in National Biodiversity Week 2023

A bat walk around Omeath in north Louth on Friday 26 May beginning at 9pm, is among the events taking place in Louth this year during National Biodiversity Week 2023.

National Biodiversity Week 2023 runs from 19 - 28 May, with a host of free events every day nationwide. Events will be both in person and virtual, so everyone can take part.

The Omeath event is organised by Donna Mullen, Chair of Green Foundation Ireland. Donna is a farmer, consultant ecologist, and director of Wildlife Surveys Ireland, with an award-winning farm, awards and placements which include the RDS Sustainable Enterprise Award, the EU Rural Inspiration Award, and the Ellison Award.

Donna works as an ecologist, drawing up nature trails and sustainability plans. Her work involves surveying buildings for bats, and she helped draw up the guidelines on bat surveys for the Heritage Council (Traditional Farm Building Scheme). She is a founder member of both Bat Conservation Ireland and the Irish Environmental Network, and has also served on the board of the Irish Wildlife Trust.

The bat walk begins at St. Jude's Shrine, Ballyonan, Omeath at 9pm on Friday 26 May. The event is free but is limited to 35 people. Book a space on the walk here.
