Dundalk & District League Week 2

Quay Celtic 2 Rock Celtic 0

Quay Celtic made a winning start to this season's league thanks to a brace of goals from Dannan Killeen. The midfielder struck after 12 minutes of play with a well placed low shot, a lead the Clancy Park side carried into the break.

The second half saw both sides squander many gilt edged chances and it took an 87th minute penalty, stroked home by Killeen to secure the win. This was Rock Celtic's second defeat. Apart from the goalscorer, the Rock keeper James Harrington had a fine match and Quay's Fintan Brady stood out from the crowd.

Muirhevnamor FC 4 Carrick Rovers 1

Muirhevnamor made a winning return to the Dundalk and District League with a 4-1 victory over Carrick Rovers.

Despite missing a penalty kick, which hit the upright, Micky O'Kane made amends with a spectacular strike from 30 yards in the 41st minute to give the home side a 1-0 half time lead.

In the 63rd minute Carrick's outstanding forward Sammy Luhabanya brought the sides level at one apiece. A well taken score by Tiernan Mulvenna in the 75th minute edged the home team ahead and right on 90 minutes he struck again to make it 3-1.

A headed goal by Adam Mostom in added time was hard on a gallant Carrick display, the 4-1  scoreline a unfair reflection on the away side's performance.
