Gino Cooney's four goals helped Bay United account for Rock Celtic 4-1
Dundalk and District League
Rock Celtic 1 Bay United 4
A first half hattrick from Bay's Gino Cooney saw the visitors bring a comfortable lead into the break against a very young Rock Celtic.
Scoring after just three minutes, they added they added another on 13 minutes before the lethal Cooney made it 3-0 a minute before the half time whistle.
The second half was only minutes old when Cooney scored a fourth goal to make it 4-0.
It took a well taken goal by Harry Kierans to stop the rout and for the most of the second period it was the homeside who dominated. But they failed to convert the many chances they created.
Bellurgan United 3 Shamrocks FC 5
Despite a very evenly contested first 45 minutes, Bellurgan never entered the dressing rooms at half time 3-0 down. Gavin Gaffney, Steven Fisher and an own goal saw the Hoops with a game winning lead. On the resumption of play James O'Connor made it 4-0.
The never say die spirit of this Bellurgan side saw them stage a great fight back, thanks to goals from Kean Sharkey, who bagged a brace, and a third from Brady Duffy to leave the League Champions sweating for the final whistle in this captivating match. David Ward made it safe with goal number 5 for the champions.
Rampart Celtic 2 Carrick Rovers 0
In the other tie in round 1, a brace from Sean Bailey was the difference as Rampart began the season with a vital win on home soil.
