Huge increase in sales of fully electric cars in Louth
Sales of electric cars in Louth in the first four months of this year have risen by almost 47% compared to the same period last year, according to new vehicle registrations statistics released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
211 new electric cars were registered in Louth up to the end of April 2023, up from 144 for the same period in 2022, a rise of 46.5%.
Petrol/plug-in electric hybrid car sales have also increased in Louth, with 79 new cars registered between January and April of this year, compared to 61 during the same period last year, representing a rise of 29.5%.
Sales of diesel electric hybrid cars have seen an even bigger increase, with 33 new cars registered so far this year, compared to eight in the first four months of 2022, representing a 312.5% increase.
The number of diesel/plug-in electric hybrid cars registered in Louth also increased, with seven registered between January and April, compared to four in the same period last year.
The number of new petrol electric hybrid cars registered in Louth fell by 17.9% however, with 279 registered compared to 340 in the first four months of 2022.
The number of new diesel cars registered in Louth also fell in the first four months of this year, with 280 registered compared to 331 up to the end of April 2022, representing a fall of 15.4%.
There was an increase in the number of new petrol cars registered in Louth however, with 578 registered up to the end of April, compared to 483 during the same period in 2022, representing an increase of 19.7%.
Overall in Louth, 1,467 new cars have been registered up to the end of April, compared to 1,390, representing a 5.5% increase on last year.
Nationally, new car registrations for the month of April were up 14% with 8,941 registered when compared to April 2022 when 7,857 new cars were registered. Registrations year to date are up 16.0% with 67,018 new cars registered on the same period last year, when 57,762 new cars were registered.
For the month of April 1,870 new electric vehicles were registered compared to 1,280 in April 2022 representing an increase of 46.1%. So far this year 11,164 new electric cars have been registered in comparison to 7,515 on the same period 2022, representing an increase of 48.6%.
