Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, was in north Louth last Wednesday, where she visited a series of rural development projects, funded by her Department.

First on the Minister's itinerary was a trip to Roche Emmet’s GAA club for the launch of a Broadband Connection Point (BCP). Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr John Reilly, who has been involved in pushing for the BCP at Roche, and involved in organising the Minister's visit, was among those who accompanied the Minister as she toured the local area.

This was followed by a visit to the Hill of Faughart for the unveiling of a LEADER-funded project, which has seen new interpretive signage to enhance the visitor experience. During the visit, Minister Humphreys received a tour of the graveyard and St Brigid's Well, and gave a speech on incorporating Faughart into Ireland's Ancient East.

The trip also saw the Minister visit the Cooley Kickhams Complex, Monksland, Carlingford for another launch of a Broadband Connection Point.

As part of her visit, Minister Humphreys launched the Connected Hubs Showcase Day held at the Creative Spark Downtown Hub, a centre for creativity and innovation in Dundalk. Hubs across the country opened their doors last Wednesday for a national Connected Hubs Showcase Day.
