A lot of traffic lights in Dundalk 'on last legs' councillors told

Dundalk Municipal District

"A lot" of traffic light systems in Dundalk are "on their last legs" Senior Executive Engineer, Mr Paddy Connolly, told councillors at the Dundalk Municipal District April meeting, and would have to wait for a planned upgrade of traffic lights across the town that is on the way.

Mr Connolly was responding to a query from Cllr Conor Keelan at the monthly meeting, who had raised the matter in relation to the traffic lights at Hill Street in Dundalk.

Cllr Keelan told the meeting that there was an issue with the timing of the lights at the Castletown Road near Rices Bridge, that was only allowing seven or eight cars through before changing. The local councillor added that there was also an issue with light at Hill St Bridge which was causing traffic problems on Dublin Street.

Mr Connolly told the meeting that the council would look into the locations Cllr Keelan mentioned but added that the Council could "only tweak them so often", and reminded members that an upgrade of traffic light systems in the town was on the way.
