Louth students were among the more than 1,000 people who graduated from Dublin City University last Friday. Three ceremonies took place in the Mahony Hall in the Helix, featuring students from the university’s five faculties: the DCU Business School, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Health, and the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.
Speaking on Friday morning, Prof Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University encouraged the graduates to be active citizens. He said the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement was a reminder of the importance of engaged citizenship and of an education which develops civic skills for a new society.
“The achievement of the Good Friday Agreement reflects our own commitment in the DCU mission to nothing less than ‘transforming lives and societies’. This is a lofty ambition, but this is a time for thinking big. It’s not a time for sitting back and being complacent. It's time for a DCU attitude driven by empathy, engagement, and leadership.”
