Louth County Council says its representatives will be flying the flag for the wee county at the 2023 St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York this week, following an invitation from the County Louth Society of New York.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York is one of the largest in the world, outside Ireland, and as such, the local authority says, is an excellent opportunity for Louth County Council to be represented.

The County Louth Society was formed in 1906 and to this day maintains strong ties with the Louth, both through the emigrants it welcomes in, and those who return to Ireland investing back into the county.

Elected representatives travelling to New York to represent Louth include An Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr. Conor Keelan as first citizen of Louth; Cllr. Kevin Meenan, Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District; Cllr Michelle Hall, Mayor of Drogheda; and Cllr. Paula Butterly, Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District. Two Louth County Council officials will also be accompanying the delegation.

Louth County Council says the visit will be a "fantastic opportunity to strengthen existing ties and to represent Louth in the world famous New York St. Patricks Day parade".  It says it will also enable the Louth delegation to attend a series of meetings, with amongst others, the IDA, Tourism Ireland, the Irish Consulate, and Enterprise Ireland, to highlight Louth as a county open and ready for business,  strategically located on the Dublin Belfast Economic Corridor.

Louth County Council says it has also provided funding support for St. Patrick’s Day events taking place in Louth this week, including:

  • Dundalk – St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Friday 17th March, commencing at 1:00pm
  • Ardee - St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Friday 17th March, commencing at 3:00pm
  • Drogheda - St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Friday 17th March, commencing at 12:00 noon
