Louth councillor expresses safety concerns over Anaverna Bridge

Cllr John Reilly at Anaverna Bridge

Cllr John Reilly has expressed safety concerns for large vehicles crossing the bridge at Anaverna in Ravensdale and has asked for Louth County Council to address the issue.

The Dundalk-Carlingford councillor raised the issue at the Dundalk Municipal District March meeting, where he told members present that the road was "grand for normal car travelling" but was "is partially undermined on the right hand side" and was an issue for heavy goods vehicles.

Cllr Reilly, who drives an oil tanker on a part-time basis, told the Dundalk Democrat that he was very worried about the stability of the ground on one side of the bridge while on a recent delivery. "It is a tricky manoeuvre at the best of times", the councillor claims.

"It is the only access that is available to the residents of the Anaverna road who require deliveries using heavy goods vehicles", he added.
