To coincide with events to mark this year’s St. Brigid’s Day, Louth County Council says it is pleased to announce that the County Museum, Dundalk will host a free afternoon talk on Tuesday January 31 at 2.30 p.m.

The talk entitled ‘Brigid – Ancient Figure, Modern Icon’ will be given by Dr. Karen Ward, (author of Goddesses of Ireland: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Women and the recently released children's book Glorious Goddesses of Ancient Ireland) and will provide an overview of Brigid’s life and how it continues to have relevance today.

Dr. Ward said, “I’m delighted to bring alive the myths and legends of Celtic Goddess and Matron Saint of Ireland Brigid as we celebrate a special festive time culminating in her new national holiday. Her phenomenal attributes are as relevant and available to us today as when she graced the land of Ireland many moons ago.”

In organising the talk, Museum Curator Brian Walsh said that “in so many ways Brigid is a touchstone for our times – she has links to creativity, beekeeping, the plight of children and refugees. Issues that are as pertinent today as they were 1500 years ago.”

Admission to the talk is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the event. For more information please contact the museum at 042 9392999
