Huge increase in house completions in Dundalk-Carlingford LEA last year
The number of house completions in the Dundalk-Carlingford Local Electoral Area (LEA) last year was more than double the number completed in 2021 and almost 100 more than the number completed in 2019, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
161 homes were completed in Dundalk-Carlingford in 2022, up from 70 in 2021, and 64 in 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic began. 32 were completed in the last quarter (Q4) of 2022; 37 in Q3; 63 in Q2; and 29 in Q1.
Dundalk South LEA however, has seen a fall in the number of house completions over the past four years. 192 were completed in 2022, down from 266 in 2021; 282 in 2020; and 340 in 2019.
Ardee LEA also saw a fall in the number of house completions last year, with 93 completions compared to 149 in 2021 and 174 in 2020. It is up however on the 81 completed in 2019.
Overall in Dundalk, 377 house completions took place in 2022. It is up from 375 in 2021; 355 in 2020; but down from 433 in 2019.
Drogheda saw a larger increase in the number of house completions in 2022, with 825 happening compared to 711 in 2021; 699 in 2020; and 538 in 2019.
Looking at the number and type of house completions in Louth overall last year, 1,578 took place; up from 1,338 in 2021; 1,248 in 2020; and 1,338 in 2019.
Scheme houses were the most common type of house completed in Louth in 2022, with 590 completions. This was followed by 143 single house completions and 56 apartments.
There was an increase in both the number of single and scheme houses completed but a fall in the number of apartments. 590 scheme house completions in 2022, is up from 483 in 2021; 483 also in 2020; and 451 in 2019. The 143 single houses completed in 2022, is up from 125 in 2021; 115 in 2020 and 127 in 2019.
The 56 apartments completed in Louth last year is down from 61 in 2021; up from the 26 completed in 2020; and down from the 91 completed in 2019.
Nationally, there were 29,851 new dwelling completions in the whole of 2022, an increase of 45.2% from 2021 and 41.3% up from 2019, pre-pandemic. In October, November, and December (Q4) 2022 there were 9,148 completions, a rise of 31.4% from Q4 2021.
The number of apartments completed in 2022 was 9,166, up 78.7% from 2021. This is more than the number of apartments completed in 2020 and 2021 combined. There were 15,163 scheme dwelling completions in 2022, up 41.9% from 2021, while 5,522 single dwellings were completed, a rise of 16.6% from 2021.
